Eturunagaram (Warangal): Warangal Range DIG T Prabhakar Rao along with Rural Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha planted saplings at the historical Medaram village in the district on Wednesday.

In the Haritha Haram programme organised by Eturunagaram circle, family members of the surrendered and underground naxals have joined the police officials in planting the saplings on the banks of Jampannavagu.

They planted a sapling in memory of police Sub-Inspector S Gopichand who died in a bomb blast triggered by Maoists at Motlagudem of Govindaraopet mandal in the district in 1998.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Prabhakar Rao has called upon the underground Maoists to join the mainstream life.

“The naxals can achieve nothing with armed struggle.

They should give up their struggle and live a normal life making use of rehabilitation package offered by the State government,” he said.

SP Ambar Kishor Jha has also appealed to the Maoists to give up armed fight.

He said the Telangana government was offering the best rehabilitation package in the entire country for the surrendered Maoists. Hence it should be made use of for living a better life, he said.

Both the officials have urged the villagers to grow more trees to protect environment.

They later distributed essential commodities like bed sheets to the families of Maoists.

Mulug ASP Vishwajith Kampati, Circle Inspectors Raghuchander and Srinivas Rao, Medaram sarpanch G Sandhyarani, Tadvai MPP Sridevi, Medaram Temple Committee Chairman K Lingaiah and others were present.
