Warangal: Residents and City Congress activists have staged a protest at GWMC filter bed in Warangal on Saturday over supply of contaminated water through public and domestic nallas for the past one week.

City Congress working president R Srihari, who led the protest, complained that the citizens have been falling ill after drinking water polluted to leakages in the corporation water supply system. Several appeals to the GWMC officials to address the problem remained unheard.

He wanted the corporation authorities to launch urgent measures to repair leakages to prevent water contamination. Otherwise, serious agitations would be staged in front of the GWMC office, he warned.

GWMC mayor N Narener, who held a meeting with engineering officials on the day, directed them to take steps to ensure clean and hygienic water to the residents. He also told superintendent engineer Abdul Rahman to prepare a report on illegal tap connections under the corporation limits.

Different list of domestic and commercial tap connections should be prepared by making field level visits. Strict measures should be taken to curtail illegal tap connections to avoid financial loss to the civic body, the mayor said. Notices should be issued
to those using domestic tap connections for commercial purpose, he added.
