Nizamabad: The prestigious 2BHK scheme of the government has run into a roadblock with no contractors coming forward to take it up except in Banswada, the constituency represented by Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy. Thanks to the Minister's intervention, two companies came forward to take up the scheme.

This is the third time that the State government has been embarrassed in the eight Assembly segments. The cost of Rs 5.3 lakh for a house in the urban areas and Rs 5.04 lakh in rural areas, has been found to be unviable by contractors. Finding the construction cost to be too high, none of the contractors have come forward to file a tender.

Two engineering companies have come forward for the construction of the houses in Banswada constituency, represented by Agriculture Minister Srinivas Reddy. They are KSR Sanstha for 105 houses in Banswada and PLG Projects for 40 houses each in Domalaedgi in Kotagiri mandal and Akbarnagar in Varni mandal and 20 houses in Birkur.

As many as 7,665 houses have been sanctioned in Nizamabad district, say the Housing department officials. The task in Banswada, Jukkal, Kamareddy, Yellareddy and Bodhan has been entrusted to the Housing Corporation. 539.34 acres have been acquired for the purpose .

The Road & Buildings Department has been entrusted with construction of the houses in Nizamabad Urban & Rural, Balkonda and Armoor Constituencies. Consequently, both Roads & Buildings and Housing Departments invited separate tenders for the houses, but no contractor came forward to take up the works. As a last resort, the Housing Department had extended the last date for the tenders from June 23 to July 13, without success.

Project Director of Housing Corporation, Chaithanya Kumar, told The Hans India on Saturday that no tenders have been submitted in four constituencies of the district. He said the government’s instructions on the construction of houses will be followed in these constituencies.
