Khammam: Drinking water crisis will soon be tackled in Sathupalli Assembly constituency with an outlay of Rs 600 crore, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao said, referring to the ongoing works of Mission Bhagiratha.

The Minister was at Errasani Banjara under Vemsoor mandal on Tuesday to launch the restoration works of Vemsoor and Gudur lift irrigation schemes (LISs).

Later, addressing a meeting, he said that efforts are on to provide sufficient water through a pipeline after the completion of restoration works. By installing high-powered motors, the government will ensure water supply to even the tail-end land under the LIS command area, he added.

Several minor irrigation projects fell defunct in the district due to the lackadaisical approach of the previous government. Strangely, I initiated Vemsoor LIS long ago and now I came back to revive it,’
Tummala said.

The previous government made several promises to protect Vemsoor region from the drought. But after getting mandate, they disappeared, the Minister accused the Congress.

Tummala said that due to his efforts the then irrigation minister sanctioned 10 LISs to provide irrigation facility in the region.
Though the previous rulers ignored the Dummugudem project, the TRS government has come up with an alternative plan by designing Sri Siatarama Project to cater to the irrigation needs of farmers in the district, he said, stating that tenders will be called for the construction of Sitarama Project in about a week.

The Minister said that onus is on him to develop Palair constituency from where he represents. He said that as many as 70 Thandas, which have no road facility, will get them soon.SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarthi Ravi and DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu were among others present.
