Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Housing Department's decision to sack contract employees has triggered controversy.

Employees are alleging that the Corporation officials have sacked them and fill vacancies by appointing people of their choice. The contract workers have claimed that the “unscientific sacking” has been carried out since January, ever since the State government hiked their salaries.

A total of 62 contract workers have been working the GHMC Housing Department. Of them, seven of employees have been sacked from Hyderabad division, four from Rangareddy division I and two from Rangareddy division ll.

According to T Srinivas Rao, a work inspector in Rangareddy II division, said the executive engineer Narayana Rao had sacked him to facilitate the appointment of someone of his choice. "After completing my BTech civil engineering, I joined the civic body as a contract worker in 2005.

I have been receiving Rs 8,500 as salary until December 2015. But the problem started when the State government has decided to hike salaries from January this year,” he said. Srinivas Rao said his EE about three days ago asked him not to attend to duties from Wednesday last without explaining the reasons.

V Anjaneyulu, a junior grade clerk, alleged that the officials had been sacking employees without any reason. He said he was clueless about the reason behind his sacking.

He also alleged that the contract employees had been not receiving salaries from April and EPF from January. When asked for a clarification, Narayana was reluctant to comment on the subject.
