Albeit the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 mandates setting up of a 4000-MW coal-fired power plant exclusively to cater to the energy needs of Telangana, initially the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has proposed Rs 9,954-crore 1600-MW (2X800) under phase-I within the bulb of Ramagundam where it already has a 2,600-MW Inter-State Generating Station (ISGS).

Ramagundam (Karimnagar): The wait is finally over with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lay the foundation stone for two mega projects-Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) phase-I of 2X800 MW, and the revival of Fertilizer Corporation of Indian (FCI) as Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL)-touted as the potential game-changers that can revitalise the economic landscape of the new born Telangana State.

Having secured environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) for the project, the works on phase-I have already commenced. This apart, the project proponent has also got an allocation of 4.73 TMC feet of water allocation from the Sripada Yellampally project.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which secured the landmark single-largest order in its history for setting up of the entire 4000-MW project, will set up the 2x800 MW Steam Generator SG (boilers) with supercritical parameters. This apart, its scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning and civil works for the Steam Generator island package.

The two units of 800 MW ultra-supercritical Steam Turbine Generator Islands will be supplied by the Alstom Bharat Forge Power Pvt. Ltd. By announcing the zero date from January 29, the NTPC resolved to complete the project within 42 months.

On the other hand, the revival of FCI as RFCL at an estimated cost of Rs 5,200 crore, said to be a big ticket deal under a joint venture company (JVC), is also awaiting Narendra Modi’s arrival for the last few months. The unit was closed in 1999.

It may be mentioned here that RFCL is a joint venture company (JVC) formed by National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) to develop fertiliser plants to produce ammonia and urea.

Recently, the RFCL already signed a pact with the GSPL India Transco Ltd (GITL) under which the latter will supply 2 million metric standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD) of natural gas for a period of 20 years. The plant, which is aimed at producing 2,200 tonnes of ammonia and 3,850 tonnes of urea a day, is expected to generate at least 5,000 jobs, mostly casual labour.

Arrangements are in full swing for the PM’s visit on August 7. In addition to the existing helipad, efforts are also on to provide space for the landing of more choppers,” a senior official told the The Hans India.
