Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma on Sunday expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of district SPs.

Reviewing the functioning of the Police department, he asked SPs to prepare a five-year strategic road map for effective policing in the State. The DGP said, “As a DGP, I meet 20 to 30 visitors every day and am able to solve their problems.

They complain that SPs do not give them time to meet and hence they are visiting the headquarters. This is not the way people-friendly police should act towards the citizens and hereafter this kind of functioning will not be tolerated.”

He asked the SPs to take up third-party analysis by creating a team of five to six persons and entrust them to take feedback on the functioning of police in districts.

He reviewed issues like state re-organisation, formation of new districts, adaptation of technology, cyber crime, research and development (R&D), forensic, Maoists movement, training, traffic management and road safety issues with additional DGs, IGs, DIGs and SPs of Telangana.

“Today’s meeting is a just a brain storming session and the next meeting will be for two days after the Ganesh idol immersion. A review will be carried out on each unit and district. Come prepared with visionary thinking and necessary budgetary requirements,” the DGP said.

Later, speaking to the officers, Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahender Reddy said that the state police have won several awards for faster passport verification, processing of e-challans and delivering service through Hawk-Eye and other applications.

The technological advancements implemented in Hyderabad would be extended to districts soon. All 60 police stations in the city will be modernised within the next five years, he said “The courts are now imprisoning chain snatchers for seven years, which is laudable. Strict implementation of MV Act against violators will be done and a violator will get into police records forever with the synchronization of data,” said CP Mahender Reddy.

East Cyberabad Police Commissioner M M Bhagwat said, “About 70 per cent of cases registered in the commissionerate limits are land disputes. With the introduction of SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) in the commissionerate limits, several cases are being solved. Strengthening the Cyber Security Council and SHE Shuttles is being done for the safety of women from all sectors.”

Further, Warangal police commissioner N Sudheer Babu said that the district police have installed 10,000 CC cameras in different localities and colonies in the city, which enormously decreased the crime rate in the last few months.

“Installation of cameras on all the highways leading towards Warangal is in progress,” he said.
