Hyderabad: The Union government on Wednesday allocated Rs 555 crore to Telangana State under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme this year. The neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has got Rs 877 crore.

The funds would be utilised to augment water supply, sewerage networks, drainage, urban transport and public and green spaces in urban areas. In all, Union Ministry of Urban Development approved an investment of Rs 4,404 crore to eight States and Union Territories under the scheme.

An inter-ministerial Apex Committee chaired by Rajiv Gauba, Secretary (Urban Development) has approved the State Level Annual Action Plans (SAAP) of these States and UTs.

Under AMRUT, central assistance would be provided to the tune of 50 per cent of project cost if the population of mission cities is less than 10 lakh each and one third of project cost if the population is more than 10 lakh each, 90 per cent of the project cost for hilly and North-Eastern States and total project cost for UTs.
