Hyderabad: Accusing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of misleading the Prime Minister, the Congress on Thursday urged Narendra Modi not to launch the ‘Mission Bhagiradha’ scheme during his visit to Telangana on August 7.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) claimed that most of its infrastructure was established during the Congress government, which was part of ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Sujala Sravanti scheme’ launched in 2008 at a cost of Rs 3,350 crores.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that he was ‘being misled’ by the State government to inaugurate a ‘bogus scheme’. He claimed that the entire infrastructure including pipeline, reservoirs and pump houses were established by the previous Congress regime and it was scheduled to be launched in 2015.
He held that the TRS government delayed it by a year to give impression as if it was behind the development. “To give legal sanctity to their moves, they invited you for the launch something, which already existed,” he pointed out.
Speaking to media persons in Gandhi Bhavan on the issue, he said as part of the Sujala Sravanti, it was planned to bring 30 tmcft of drinking water to Hyderabad. The entire project was scheduled to be completed by March 2015.
Through these pipelines, it was proposed to provide drinking water to the villages en route Yellampally-Hyderabad. Instead of sticking to the original design plan, the present government diverted the Godavari water from Karimnagar to the Chief Minister's constituency Gajwel in Medak district.
“By diverting water from Yellampally reservoir to Gajwel constituency, the Chief Minister is doing injustice to 70 other villages which were expecting drinking water under the original design. This was done without taking any clearances from any Central government agencies,” he added.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Modi, during his visit, should announce launching of all projects that were mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for Telangana.
Leader of the Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir questioned the rationality of the government in renaming the irrigation projects and schemes, which were initiated by the Congress government. “Pranahita-Chevella was originally named after Dr B R Ambedkar and the current phase of Mission Bhagiradha was named after Azad.
It appears that the current government does not have any regard for freedom fighters and national heroes,” he lamented. The Prime Minister is scheduled to make his maiden visit to Telangana on Sunday, during which he will lay foundation stones of different projects collectively worth around Rs 17,000 crore.
