Warangal: Efforts were on to supply tap water to all households in the 67 villages of Jangaon assembly constituency before August 31, under Mission Bhagiratha, said Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.

The villages fall under Cherial, Bachannapet and Maddur mandals of the constituency and they were part of HMWSSB segment. Under the prestigious Mission Bhagiratha, an estimated Rs 4,433 crore was being spent and works were taken up under five segments in Warangal district.

The Deputy CM hoisted national flag at police parade grounds in Hanamkonda on Monday on the occasion of 70th Independence Day. Addressing the gathering, he said the State government has planned to supply potable water to a total of 704 hamlets by December 2016.

210 hamlets in Jangaon constituency, 181 villages in Station Ghanpur and 246 villages in Palakurthy constituency would get water under HMWSSB segment. Under the remaining four segments, plans were made to supply water by 2017, Srihari explained.

He listed out the achievements made by the district in various fields, development and welfare schemes being implemented by the TRS government. Under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the State has registered immense growth towards the objective of ‘Golden Telangana’ during the last two years.

In the second phase of Mission Kakatiya, renovation of 253 tanks was completed already. In agricultural sector, the extent of cotton crop was reduced by 65,000. About 2.76 crore saplings were planted as part of Haritha Haram so far.

As part of Badi Baata, 4,311 students were enrolled additionally this year in government schools. The construction works of Kaloji Health University would soon begin. The government was committed to complete Devadula irrigation at the earliest, he added.

The Deputy CM handed over appreciation certificates to 455 government employees, NGOs and others in recognition of their services. He also handed over 2,046 bicycles to the students of 102 schools in the district.

Cultural programmes depicting freedom movement and culture performed by the students enthralled the audience. Zilla Parishad chairperson G Padma, MP A Sitaram Naik, District Collector V Karuna, rural SP Ambar Kishor Jha, Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu, Joint Collector Prashanth Patil and others were present.

Freedom fighters’ protest irks Srihari. The Deputy CM, K Srihari, has faced the wrath of the freedom fighters, who expressed concern at the negligent attitude of the State government towards their issues.

The Freedom Fighters Association leader P Veeraswamy and others complained that the 80 sq yards land given to them was inadequate. They demanded a minimum of 300 sq yards to be given to all freedom fighters.

Several appeals in this connection were unheard of and attempts to contact the Deputy CM to submit a petition proved futile, they lamented.

Crores of rupees were being doled out to different sections but the freedom fighters were not cared for, alleged Veeraswamy.
