Warangal: The leaders and activists of Communist Party of India (CPI) staged dharnas across the district on Wednesday in protest against the skyrocketing of prices of essential commodities.

The protests were staged as part of a call given by the CPI national leadership. Scores of activists have staged demonstrations in front of revenue divisional offices accusing the BJP-led NDA government at Centre and TRS government in the State of failing to curb the price rise of essential commodities.

The district-level leaders have staged a demonstration at BR Ambedkar Centre in Hanamkonda. The party State executive member T Venkatramulu, district president T Srinivasa Rao, former MLA P Saraiah and others took part in the protest and addressed the gathering.

Speaking to the media, Venkatramulu said that the State and Central governments miserably failed to address the issue of skyrocketing of prices of essential commodities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who promised to bring down the prices within 100 days of coming to power could not deliver the promise, he recalled.

He said that the Modi government was imposing massive tax burden on the poor and middle class while doling out huge concessions in the taxes to the rich and corporate sector.

It was shameful to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in Defence sector.

The Centre was allowing FDI in profit making public sector entities in a bid to benefit foreign corporations and thus he was harming the nations’ interests, Venkatramulu said. During Modi rule, attacks on Dalits and women have become rampant, the CPI leader lamented.

Following the footsteps of Modi, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has also forgotten to deliver his poll promises.

In the pretext of creating new districts, the Chief Minister was diverting the attention of public from real issues and neglecting their welfare, complained Srinivasa Rao, CPI district president.

The public distribution system (PDS) has become disorganised and good grains meant for poor were being diverted to black market, he alleged.

The ration card holders were not able to obtain the food grains and other material supplied the PDS shops, he added.

The State and Central governments would public wrath the wrath of the public if they fail to control the ever increasing prices of the essential commodities, the leaders warned.

The party leaders S Karunakar, G Raji Reddy, N Ashok Stalin, V Sadanandam, B Ravinder, A Srinivas and others were present.
