Hyderabad: Stating that attempts were on to create differences in the name of caste and religion, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said no one has the right to kill somebody in the name of ‘Gau Mata’.

The Union Minister participated in ‘Swatantra Saptati’ organised by the party here on Friday. “We can perform puja of Gau Mata. But in the name of Gau Mata, no one has the right to kill others,” he said. He also said it was a shame that there were still atrocities continuing against women in the society. “Ours is a great culture. We offer sugar to ants, milk to snakes and we pray to animals. There is no place for violence,” the Minister said.

He took exception to the politicisation of every issue by some parties. “They are trying to take political advantage by raising issues and this will ultimately result in insult to the nation and we will become a laughing stock,” the Minister said.

Earlier, inaugurating a photo exhibition on festival of freedom- ‘Aazadi ke 70 saal- Yaad Karo Kurbani’, Venkaiah said the intention of the programme was to reignite patriotic fervour among the youth. The exhibition was organised by Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP).

He said the idea was to remember the freedom fighters and promote nationalism and rededicate them for the development of the country. The Union Minister further added that the intention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to provide fruits of the development to all sections of the society.

The exhibition has rare photos from the post-independence era including the picture of Ministers from the first cabinet of India, celebrations during the Independence Day on August 15, 1947, Dr B R Ambedkar tabling the Hindu Act Bill, Nizam of Hyderabad surrendering before Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, presidents and prime ministers of India and others.
