Warangal: The second auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) who have been on strike for the past one month have on Saturday laid siege to Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari’s residence in Hanamkonda demanding that their issues be addressed.

The second ANMs who have been demanding regularisation of their services gathered in large numbers under the banner of Telangana United Medical and Health Employees Union affiliated to the CITU at the Deputy Chief Minister’s residence and raised slogans in support of their demands.

Nearly 400 second ANMs who took part in the protest wanted the Kadiyam Srihari to intervene and address their problems. Speaking on the occasion, CITU leader Chukkaiah alleged that the State and Central governments failed to address the ANMs issues even though they have been protesting for the past 34 days.

The police have detained the protesting ANMs and the CITU leaders and took them to Subedari police station. Condemning the arrest of the protestors, they staged a demonstration at the police station.

K Saroja, Y Jamuna Rani, Manjula and K Sujatha, CITU leaders Ragula Ramesh, U Nageshwara Rao, B Suresh, Royyala Raju and others participated in the protest. If the government failed to respond to their demands at the earliest, the agitation would be intensified, they warned.

It might be noted that the second ANMs were asking a minimum wage of Rs 21,300 per month as per the provisions of 10th PRC, 35 days casual leaves and 180 days paid maternity leaves, besides uniform allowances and others.
