Hyderabad: The Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, B Janardhan Reddy, on Thursday directed the engineering staff to strictly supervise quality of roads to be constructed in the city. The civic authorities have decided to recarpet 108-km-long roads in the city which were damaged during heavy rains.

During the meeting with engineering staff and quality staff, Reddy asked the officials to maintain quality and standard of material being used for carpeting of roads. “There are about 9,000km-long roads in the city. Of them, 50 per cent roads are of single line.

As part of quality measures, traffic will not be allowed on recarpeted roads for 24 hours," he said. In the recent past, the GHMC has taken up road repairing works for about 900km roads at a cost of Rs 320 crore.
