Hyderabad: The kidnap of an 18-month-old baby girl Dakshita from Medchal on Tuesday ended on a happy note as the girl landed in Toopran police station.

According to Medchal police, a couple identified as Siva and Lakshmi, living in a rented house in Uma Venkatram Reddy Nagar in the town since November became friends with neighbours Sailaja and Sreenu. Siva and Lakshmi approached Sailaja on Tuesday evening and requested her to send her 18-month-old daughter Deekshita with them as they were going for shopping. An unsuspecting Sailaja sent her daughter with the couple at around 6 pm, the police said.

Around 7 pm, Sailaja’s husband returned home from work and found from his wife that their daughter was taken by their neighbours at 6 pm and did not return. He found something fishy and rushed to the market area to look for the couple but to no use. Suspecting that something was seriously wrong, Sreenu lodged a complaint with the police. On Wednesday morning, the Toopran police called their counterparts in Medchal and informed that the missing girl was in their custody.

Immediately, the Medchal police, along with the parents of the kid, rushed to Toopran and reunited the girl with the family. Investigations by the police revealed that the girl was left by an unidentified person at a tailor’s shop at Toopran requesting the shop owner to look after the girl until he returned. Since the unidentified person did not come back even after a couple of hours, the shop owner handed over the baby to Toopran police.

The Toopran police identified the girl after watching her photos on television news and informed the Medchal police. Meanwhile, Medchal the police are continuing their investigation to nab Siva and his wife for kidnapping the girl and also to ascertain the motive behind committing the offense.
