Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has sought an additional allocation of Rs 1,500 crore in 2017-18 budget to bring in overall improvement in the education system in the state.

At a review meeting on Friday, Srihari felt that if the additional allocation was made then it would become easy for the department to get more central funds and implement various measures to improve the conditions in junior colleges, degree colleges and polytechnic colleges.

He said high priority is being given to improve the conditions in Kasturba girls high schools. He said the department has prepared detail reports to add more academic blocks for which it would require about Rs 300 crore and another Rs 100 crore to improve the infrastructural facilities like toilets, and drinking water.

He also emphasised on the need to improve the conditions in universities. There is an urgent need to fill vacancies. The government would also sanction new posts where ever it was necessary.

Similarly, the stage is set for upgrading 20 residential schools into colleges, he said. All this would require additional funds and hence the education department has sent proposals to the finance department asking them to give liberal allocations, he added.
