INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Hyderabad: Festive mood prevailed in TRS Bhavan where women leaders of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from grass root level to legislators took active part in various activities organised on the eve of International Women’s Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Nizamabad MP K Kavitha on Tuesday said the women in the State got importance only after the formation of Telangana. She said the TRS government was giving priority to women in the implementation of the welfare schemes.

“Before the bifurcation, Telangana was suppressed in all the sectors and the successive governments could not do justice to women. But after the formation of Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was giving top most priority to women,” said Kavitha.

“The government has introduced many schemes for women. Poor families are getting financial assistance of Rs 51,000 under Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. The three acres land given to Dalits is registered in the name of women.

Women beedi workers and old age persons are getting pensions and women have been given opportunities in market committees,” she said. Because of the decision of providing 50 per cent reservations for women in GHMC, there were 75 women corporators, she added.

Kavitha said the government was giving priority to the women who had participated in the Telangana agitation. Chief Minister had decided to reward the women who were in the Telangana movement right from the beginning and hence a committee had been formed for giving nominated posts to them, she added. She said a sports meet for women would be organised in July.

Several events including tug of war, musical chairs, caroms and chess were organised for women in the Telangana Bhavan. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, ZP chairpersons Sunita Mahender Reddy, Rajamani, former Rajya Sabha member G Sudharani, former MLA Satyavati Rathod and Telangana Jagruti women workers were also present.
