Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy District Educational Officer (DEO), Gajarla Ramesh, has been honoured with the award of ‘Innovations in Educational Administration 2016-17’, in recognition to his contribution in improving schools and technology mediated learning skills for children.
Union Human Resources Minister, Prakash Javdekar, presented the national award to Ramesh at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday, organised by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration.
While working as the DEO of Ranga Reddy district, Ramesh worked hard for improving the learning skills of children through technology interface. He noticed that lack of English medium was one of the reasons for closure of government schools in Ranga Reddy district.
Consequently, he decided to develop communication skills in English among the teachers. For this, he made use of Whatsapp application since every teacher was using smart phone. Since the tool was a cost effective one, the innovative method of developing English skills was introduced with no additional financial
burden.
A training programme was organised for the teachers. The teachers group and the teachers’ union group has forwarded the module to the Whatsapp group members across the state. The outcome of the initiative has been very impressive as English medium teaching was started in as many as 495 primary schools in the district during the academic year 2016-17.
Apart from this, Ramesh also launched another initiative of identifying the BEST schools- Best in Education, Sanitation and Total development. Further, he took initiative in introducing digital classes in high schools in the district.
The initiatives taken up by Ramesh have found prominent mention in the Compendium of Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration 2016-17, published by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration, which selected the officials for the national awards.
