Hyderabad: Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of Transco D Prabhakar Rao said on Thursday that the demand for power would soon reach 10,000 MW in the state. The CMD said that the Discoms are geared up to meet the growing demand with the help of ,1200 MW of power from Singareni and 1180 MW from solar units. Greater Hyderabad registered a peak demand of 2,413 MW of power on March 6.

In a meeting with officials of power utilities to discuss the steps to be implemented to meet the demand for power in the state this summer  the CMD expressed that uninterrupted power to agriculture as well as domestic sectors is their primary motto. According to him another meeting would be held in May to discuss the measures to be taken to ensure nine hours power supply to agriculture sector in the day time.

Southern Power Distribution Company’s chairman and managing director Raghuma Reddy said that quality power supply has been achieved in the rural areas with establishment of new lines and transformers but the consumers are disappointed with the interruptions in power supply with the tripping of feeders and this has to be controlled.

Raghuma Reddy said that in the past 16 months about 54 new 132/33 KV substations have been established over and above the 284 old ones. He also expressed that the Assistant Executive Engineers and other staff should reside where they work so as to restore power supply in case of any  interruption.

The CMD expressed concern over farmers trying to fix power lines in the absence of staff and warned that action would be taken against the concerned staff in occurrences of any accidents in this regard.
