Hyderabad: Telangana Desam Party is struggling hard to revive its political fortunes in Telangana State. The party which has suffered a major dent in its organisational set-up is now unable to get strong leaders who can resurrect the party’s political future in the newly constituted districts.

  • Lack of strong leaders to lead the new district units
  • Migration of leaders to TRS hits the party hard

With the migration of most of the TDP leaders to TRS in the last three years, Telugu Desam has suffered a big loss and the district-level units have become almost defunct. The efforts to constitute new committees and appoint district presidents did not succeed.

The party is virtually on the verge of extinction in the North Telangana districts, which was once considered to be the bastion of TDP. The districts where the party is facing tough time are Warangal, Bhupalpalle,Bellampalli, Mancherial, Adilabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet , Jagityal, Kamareddy, Komaram Bheem and Bhadradri -Kothagudem.

All the important leaders from these districts had joined ruling TRS party. However the party could made its presence in a few South Telangana districts - Suryapet, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Mahbubnagar, Hyderabad and Malkajigiri.

The presidents of the old district units have been made party in-charges for the newly carved districts. Party President L Ramana and working president A Revanth Reddy held meetings with some leaders to appoint district in-charges.

A senior party leader said that the party proposed to elevate assembly constituency in-charges as district party Presidents but most of them are unfit due to lack of leadership qualities. In some cases, leaders are not interested to take up the responsibility of strengthening the party.

In the present circumstances, the party heads have no clue on how to galvanise the party cadre and leaders towards reviving the TDP in all districts ahead of 2019 elections.

Meanwhile, the TDP leaders Ramana and Revanth Reddy met the Election Commission and requested it to take up delimitation of the Assembly constituencies following increase in the number of districts in the State. They argued that the creation of 21 new districts has been done unscientifically by the TRS government for political gains.
