Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) on Thursday demanded that the government cancel the power purchase agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government because the PPA would impose an additional burden of Rs 1,000 crore in the coming year.

The TJAC, at its Steering Committee meeting, passed a resolution demanding that the State government cancel the PPAs with Andhra Pradesh government. The JAC leader C Raghu said the PPA between Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh still remained in operation, but the AP government was not selling the hydel power which is available at a lower price to Telangana State.

On the other hand the costly power from thermal power stations was sold at a higher price. The PPA would lead to heavy burden of Rs 1,000 crore on the exchequer next year, said Raghu.

The JAC leader said the power situation in the country had improved during the last two years and many States had closed down their plants in the absence of customers. The situation in Telangana State too has improved as it is now having excess power, he added.
