Hyderabad: The Centre, it is learnt, is in no mood to accept Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plea to allot Parade Grounds for the construction of new Secretariat.

The Chief Minister on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hand over the land owned by the Defence Ministry.

Highly-placed official sources said that KCR was informed after the meeting by officials that Union Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar had asked the defence ministry to examine the request made by Telangana government in 2015 and the Defence ministry responding to the CM’s plea, wrote a letter to the Defence Estate Officer (DEO), AP Circle, asking him to send a detailed land survey report.

The military authorities in its report examined the allotment of nearly 60 acres of Bison Polo land which is part of Parade Grounds.

Sources said that the central authorities informed the CM that de-notifying the land owned by the defence ministry was not possible as the report prepared by the local Army wing already clarified the land was being used exclusively for army training camps and military use.

Since there is no alternative to conduct the camps in a secured place in the city, it would not be possible to hand over the land to the state government.

The defence authorities also declined the KCR government’s offer to allot land near Golconda fort in lieu of Parade Grounds to the Ministry of Defence.

At this movement, there is also no full-time Defence Minister to hold a meeting with Army officials on the particular issue.

The state government has planned to construct multi-floor new secretariat complex on the Parade Grounds which does not fall under the funnel area of the Begumpet airport.

The funnel area is restricted to Fathenagar part of the airport and there is no bar to build high-rises on the Parade Grounds.
