Hyderabad: The increasing number of maternal deaths at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) left the doctors in a baffled state. On Tuesday, Rajitha (22) a resident of Malkajgiri died of heavy bleeding and breathlessness.

She was shifted from Niloufer hospital to Osmania General Hospital. Presently there are five other patients admitted at the hospital out of which Syeda Fareeda’s, who is on ventilator, is said to be critical.

In the past one week, six patients were shifted from Sultan Bazaar and Petlaburj maternity hospitals to OGH. Doctors are baffled and have no answer to the increasing number of maternal deaths. There is a common pattern observed in all the 14 deaths that happened in the last few months.

Patients complain of heavy bleeding followed by shortness of breath. There is an inquiry committee constituted to find out reasons for the deaths. On February 22 this year, the government set up a Maternity Bed Audit Committee comprising six doctors and professors but so far there were no findings.
