Senior Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sold moon to the masses and both of them are dream merchants and not leaders with a vision.
Senior Congress leader Jaipal Reddy says that while Chandrababu Naidu is struggling to get a suitable secretariat for AP, his counterpart in Telangana, KCR, is planning to demolish the existing one.
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sold moon to the masses and both of them are dream merchants and not leaders with a vision.
Interacting with media here on Saturday, the Congress leader said in fact people like US President Donald Trump needs to learn from KCR on how to sell dreams. The last minute decision of the Congress high command to carve separate Telangana, its failure to get TRS merge with Congress, strong T sentiment and promising something for everyone helped TRS come to power, he said.
But three years down the lane, people have realised that the government had promise which cannot be fulfilled and that they have been cheated by the TRS. The manner in which people turned up voluntarily for the meeting of Rahul Gandhi in Sangareddy recently is clear indication of how discontent has been building up among the people against the TRS, Reddy said.

- Says US Prez Donald Trump has to ape KCR
- People feel cheated by TRS
- Says not in the race for Chief Minister’s slot
Referring to the KCR’s survey which predicted 111 Assembly seats out of 119 for TRS, Reddy said the survey has no basis. It is like Congress party coming up with another survey now after Rahul Gandhi’s visit and claim that TRS will get only one seat. He said it is a fact that the downfall of TRS has begun. Congress along with non-TRS and non-BJP parties may think of forming alliance and contest the 2019 elections, he said.
Asked how the Congress party, which appears to be a divided house, think of coming to power in Telangana, Jaipal said that TRS is the party which has a ‘Pehalwan’ in the form of KCR and weak army, while Congress has a very strong army. He denied that the party is a divided house. Internal democracy is different from being divided, he observed.
Replying to another question, the former Union minister said the loan waiver scheme was a good decision but the way it was implemented was not correct. Instead of helping the farmers to get rid of debt burden, it has pushed them into more debts. TRS has promised three acres of land to SCs and STs and tried to make changes to the Land Acquisition Act so that Government can take more land and pay less.
The senior Congress leader also flayed KCR for his decision to construct a new secretariat. While AP says it has no proper secretariat complex, here KCR does not know how to fill the existing secretariat building. On the other hand he now wants construct another building wasting public money.
When asked to comment on CM's claim that Telangana is a rich State and that it was generating wealth and distributing to people, Reddy said that TS is revenue surplus State not a rich State. The reason is it gets about Rs 25,000 crore from Hyderabad alone. He said leaders should be magnanimous which KCR is not.
He would never like to give due credit to those who were really responsible for granting Telangana. “I had advised the high command to ensure merger of TRS with Congress before announcement; but some leaders misguided the high command and we had to lose power,” he said.
Asked if he would be the chief minister candidate in TS, he said he would be contesting for Parliament and not Assembly. Who the chief minister should be, the high command will decide after elections but as far as Prime Ministerial candidate is concerned, there is no second opinion that Rahul Gandhi is the Congress candidate, he added.
