A scholar from Hyderabad Central University (HCU) committed suicide at Chandanagar on Saturday. Identified as Vishal Tandon, the deceased was a native of Punjab and resided at Aparna Sarovar apartments in Chandanagar, Hyderabad.

He was doing research on gender studies at the university for the past two years.

Vishal locked his door from outside on Saturday and jumped from the balcony of the 14th floor of his building.

The 45-year-old sent an email to his sister Geetika about ending his life stating the reason behind that he was not settled in life and failed to secure a job apart from the health problems.

Police officials informed that Vishal was alone at the apartment as his mother went to Mumbai to see her daughter Geetika.

On seeing Vishal's email, Geetika alerted his friends in the nearby flat but by the time, they reached the house, he was already lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor.

Police have registered a case of suicide.
