Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Saturday said they are working on a target to take up works worth Rs 3,000 crore this year under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The Minister chaired a meeting of Employment Guarantee Council at Sipard in Rajendranagar attended by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Rao claimed that Telangana bagged second place at national level in implementing the prestigious employment guarantee scheme in districts.

The Telangana Government has taken up works of Rs 1,106 crore in the last three months of 2017-19 financial year and clinched second position at the national level, he said.

“We are implementing the scheme in a better manner and offering huge number of works”, the Minister remarked. He also said for the first time they have successfully made use of the funds under the scheme last year.

Harish Rao said the Telangana Government was keeping its promise of providing employment to more number of workers and laborers. “We are making ample use of funds and taking up works in rural areas”, he said.
