Hyderabad: The BPL in-patients at government hospitals in the city are to get free cab service especially to railway stations and bus terminals. Helping Hands Foundation, a city-based NGO launched the initiative on a pilot basis at MNJ Cancer Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital.

Mujtaba Hasan Askari, founder trustee, Helping Hands Foundation said on Saturday, “We are in the process of talking to OLA & Uber for a possible tie up. We have sent proposals to all the hospitals such as NIMS, Niloufer, SMH Petlaburj and all the Area Hospitals, TS Vaidya Vidhana Parishads requesting them to avail these services,’’ Askari said. In the past four weeks, the service has been utilised by a number of BLP patients.

Initially, we spoke to Auto Rickshaw walas to check if we can engage them to ferry patients to nearest public transport points. But the negotiations were failed as the system was not economical as the auto walas demanded Rs 600/- for 3 hours of service and the supervision of autos also involve huge costs.
