Hyderabad: The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDC) has decided to set up eight lifts along the Musi River Front to take up 72 irrigation projects. The water will be lifted from the available sources including Osmansagar and Himayathsagar reservoirs and Godavari River into Musi River. Besides this, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation will also set 32 sewerage treatment plants (STPs) to minimise the water contamination.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, MRDC Chairman Prem Singh Rathore said that the State government has already conducted a series of meetings with experts to clean up Musiriver and restore its past glory. He said that the MRDC would set-up eight lifts at several locations to draw water from the twin reservoirs.
The MRDC would ensure 100 metre depth after the completion of the project, he added. He said that around 72 irrigation projects would be taken up on the Musi River
When asked about the encroachments, MRDC chairman said, "Law will takes its own course." He said that the MRDC officials would convince the encroachers and take legal action according to law. He said that the River Musi flows for nearly 44 km through the city and under the first phase, works pertaining to 32 km would be taken up. He also said that the government has already sanctioned Rs 1,664.47 crore.
He said that the MRDC would spend Rs 687.42 crore for upper and lower reach (which is under Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority's jurisdiction) river front development, Rs 977.05 crore for middle reach (which is under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits)river front development and Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board would spend Rs 1,301 crore to construct Sewage Treatment Plants(STP).
