Parkal/Warangal: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), which started Telangana Vimochana Yatra to urge the government to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day officially on September 17, extended a clarion call to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislators to join the cause.

The party State president K Laxman extended the call and asked the leaders to join the cause to celebrate Liberation Day officially cutting across political lines. He urged the ruling party MLAs to quit their posts, if they really are concerned about the self-respect of Telangana.

He described BJP’s demand for official celebration of the Liberation Day as a matter of self-respect and a means to honour hundreds of martyrs with no political angle to it.

The time has come for the TRS MLAs to choose whether they will honour the martyrs and public demand or stand by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is neglecting the public demand to appease his friend MIM party.

A grand reception was given by the party workers and sympathisers at the arrival of Telangana Vimochana Yatra, led by Laxman in Warangal on Saturday. A massive motor bike rally was taken out through the city to Parkal where a public meeting was held.

It may be noted here that on September 2, scores of people were massacred by the Razakar force in the erstwhile Nizams of Hyderabad rule in 1947 for trying to hoist national flag at Parkal. The incident is usually referred as ‘second Jalianwala Bagh incident.’ Addressing the gathering, at the spot where the massacre took place, Laxman said even Oxford University scholars have expressed honour at the way the peasants of Parkal fought Nizams’ army but, the Chief Minister is uncared.

The Chief Minister had several times in the past demanded that an official celebration of the day be marked and promised to hold official celebration after he comes to power. ‘What happened to that promise? Why the Chief Minister is feared of MIM?’ Laxman posed.

He wanted Parkal incident to be included in school syllabus as a tribute to the martyrs while the party senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya said there is an overwhelming response to Vimochana Yatra at least now the Chief Minister should respond and celebrate the Liberation Day officially.

Speaking to The Hans India on the sidelines of the rally, a freedom fighter K Rajanna felt that there is no sound logic behind the government’s denial to celebrate Liberations Day officially. ‘It is no way anti-Muslim it is just a struggle for freedom, even as entire nation hoisted national flag we could not do it back then”, he said.

An eye-witness to the massacre at Parkal, the party senior leader Ch Janga Reddy recalling the day said, “It was a brutal incident. Razakars have fired at will at the unarmed public”.
