Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has chalked out short-term, midterm and long term plans to facelift the city roads. Besides this, the civic body has also decided to increase the footpath length of 150 kilometres in the city limits.

According to GHMC officials, the civic body will first embark on short term plan which would completed by November, mid-term plan which would end by March and long term plan which would be completed by June next year. The GHMC during first phase will identify the severely damaged roads and repair them and also check the condition of road side drain which have responsible for road damages.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that as per the instruction of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, the civic body will identify all vulnerable roads which were damaged due to recent rainfall and repair them immediately.

He said, besides road repairs the corporation will also reset the road drains which are prime reasons for the road damage. He said in the mid-term plan the GHMC would repair the roads which have been facing a minimal damage. He also said that the GHMC has decided to construct one kilometre footpath per division.

The GHMC official further said that in the long term plan the corporation would divide all arterial roads into three packages and use sophisticated technologies based on the traffic movement. He said that GHMC has also decided to repair entire storm water drains in the city and will construct new ones in order to minimise the road damage in the near future.
