Hyderabad: Taking a dig at the protagonists of the `Telangana Liberation Day’ fete in the State, noted historian Pandu Rangareddy on Thursday said that celebrating September 17 would be equal to celebrating the massacre of many innocent people.

He said that the matter of September 17 was subjudiced since a writ petition is pending in High Court of Hyderabad. Listing out the details of historical events pre & post Operation Polo carried out from September 13 to 17, 1948, he said that it cannot be celebrated.

He appealed the central leadership of BJP to stop its State unit from celebrating September 17 and said that it would only ignite the communal tensions among the communities in the State.

He said, ``After the Operation Polo was completed, the Military Governor in 1949 did not celebrate the event; then why people are insisting for it now.”

He said that the last Nizam Meer Osman Ali Khan was made the Raj Pramukh of Hyderabad State from 1950 to 1956.
