Hyderabad: Alleging that the TRS government in Telangana is intentionally not celebrating the merger of erstwhile Nizam State with the Indian Union, state BJP president K Laxman on Friday said an agitation similar to the separate statehood stir needs to be organised for the purpose.

Speaking at a round-table meeting organised by the BJP in Hyderabad, he asked why Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who favoured the official celebration of the day of merger (17 September) during undivided Andhra Pradesh, has changed his stance now.

Laxman, who has recently undertaken a 'yatra' with the demand that the state government officially celebrate the day, said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would attend a public meeting to be organised by the party on 17 September at Nizamabad.

BJP has alleged that the TRS government was not officially celebrating the day due to "vote bank politics" and also under pressure from the MIM. The party on Friday released a poster for the Nizamabad meeting.
