Hyderabad: Over one lakh government employees would lose one-day salary of this month for boycotting their duties against Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) on September 1. Finance Department has instructed the Treasury wing to deduct one-day salary of 1.20 lakh employees for not attending their duties on that day.

The employees recruited from 2004 onwards have been demanding to scrap the new pension scheme stating that it was against the interest of the employees and would put heavy financial burden on them. Telangana Employees Union President Padma Chary said that most of the employees striking against the pension system were government teachers.

They were strongly objecting the new pension system as the benefits under the CPS were minimal when compared to the old scheme. Since the employees were fighting for their own rights, he demanded government to roll back the decision to deduct one-day salary.
