Hyderabad: Seven labourers were killed when a portion of Kaleswaram irrigation project tunnel collapsed near Tippapur in the Illantakunta mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district on Wednesday.

On information, District SP Vishwajit rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operations. According to police, eight labourers were working in the tunnel when the incident happened in the 10-Package of Kaleshwaram project. While six labourers were killed on the spot while another died in Pratima Hospital in Karimangar. One more labourer is undergoing treatment and his condition is said to be critical.

The deceased have been identified as Sandip, Jitender, Haricharan, Hariram, Gowtham and Hari. One person is yet to be identified. Except Sandip, who is from Mulugu, the other workers were from Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has expressed deep shock over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He informed that Project's Executive Engineer Anand had rushed to the spot after learning about the incident.
