Tourism Dept to organize Bathukamma festival at People’s Plaza

Hyderabad: The Tourism Department is organizing Bathukamma festival celebrations at a grand scale from 24th to 27th September at People’s Plaza from 5.00 PM to 7.00 PM.

The Tourism Department has made necessary arrangements for celebrating Bathukamma with pomp and show. The Telangana Tourism is celebrating this event in participation with different women associations. On September 28, a procession comprising of about 4,000 to 5,000 women will be celebrating Bathukamma from Lumbini Park Parking area to Bathukamma Ghat (Rotary Park), Tank Bund from 3.00 PM onwards.

The State level festival, Bathukamma is celebrated across the State and is an important cultural event, wherein large number of people, particularly women, celebrates with devotional fervor. These celebrations promote cultural & heritage value of the State & allure the tourists from different parts of the country & world to witness it, thus enhancing the tourist footfalls. It also generates awareness amongst the younger generations & imbibes the cultural values in them.

Bathukamma is a women’s floral festival of Telangana which is the only festival in the world, celebrated by women and for the women. It is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri i.e., from 20th to 28th September, commences on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya and culminates on 9th day "Saddula Bathukamma" or "Pedda Bathukamma" festival i.e., on Ashwayuja Ashtami, popularly known as Durgashtami, two days prior to Dussehra.

All the hotels and restaurants of Telangana are organizing Telangana ethnic food festival in their respective hotels from 20th to 28th September as requested by Department of Tourism. Bathukamma idols have been displayed in various locations in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Bathukamma brochures have been distributed to all the districts of Telangana / Telangana State tourist Information counters / Other State boards & counters for wide publicity and for promotion.
