According to a press release by TCA, the even was celebrated just like in Telangana, both the event venues, Dougherty Valley High School’s (DVHS) auditorium, San Ramon, CA and Ortega Park, Sunnyvale, CA, were filled with traditionally dressed ladies carrying their beautifully decorated Bathukamma. The Bathukamma was decorated elaborately with beautiful flowers of different varieties and colours.
The top four Bathukamma were selected by eminent judges at both the events and four participants were awarded prizes. The winners were Mamatha Buddineni (first prize), Naveenna Kellepu (second prize), Roopa Kala (third prize) and Prasanna Maddineni (fourth prize).
The TCA Best Bathukamma winners at Sunnyvale Bathukamma event were: Neelima Singireddy (first prize), Sireesha Nalabolu (second prize), Archana Koppula (third prize), Jyothi Chigullapally (fourth prize).
Bathukamma was originally celebrated in villages or colonies with grandparents, parents, family and friends but now, for Bay Area NRIs, Bathukamma means TCA’s Bathukamma events that are receiving huge response year and year.
TCA Executive team members Dhananjaya Boda, Chandrakala Siramdas, Srinivas Gujju, Mahipal Annam, Vinoy Mereddy, Sagar Kotha, Harish Bhokre and Vijayalakshmi Kanikaram organised the event.
