Secunderabad: The residents of Ramakrishna Puram (RK Puram), Neredmet, Sainikpuri and other nearby areas are left with no choice as the RK Puram flyover has turned to be one of the traffic bottleneck areas in Secunderabad. Potholes on the flyover have made the situation from bad to worse.

The RK Puram flyover is one of the busy areas, especially from 8 am to 11 am and 5.30 pm to 9 pm, and the area is also known as an accident prone zone as road mishaps occur on a regular basis there. Making the situation worse, the footpath on the flyover has uprooted tiles and the bus shelter at the end of the flyover hampers traffic movement during peak hours.

A bakery owner, Alauddin, at RK Puram said during the peak hours, particularly during evening, there was heavy traffic jam. He said the visitors at his shop faced a lot of problem to park their vehicles as the traffic near the flyover ate up the parking area. He also said that three years ago another flyover was sanctioned but the work has not been taken up so far.

A resident of RK Puram, Kalyan Kumar, said, “Traffic in the area is increasing day by day. The RK Puram flyover is the smallest bridge that is used by thousands of commuters on a daily basis. Now, that there are new malls coming up, the problems have been even more serious.”

A commuter, Satyanarayana, said, “This is a only one flyover which connects the locality to Secunderabad but to pass through this bridge is a difficult task especially in the peak hours. Because the bridge being narrow, it is also an accident prone area. There is not even proper place for pedestrians to walk over the bridge.”
