Hyderabad: The farmers’ dream of having water for the second crop in the former Nizamabad and Medak districts would become a reality this year. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to release water for the second crop through Singur for 2 lakh acres of land.

By releasing water through Singur, as many as 2 lakh acres in Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Andole constituencies will get water for the second crop. State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy had recently requested the Chief Minister for the release of water from Singur to Nizam Sagar for the second crop as the water level in Singur has reached 29 tmcft maximum level.

By releasing water from Singur, Ghanapuram anicut would also be filled and give water to 30,000 acres. Under Andole lift irrigation scheme another 40,000 acres will get water, Harish Rao said.

Orders for the release of 9 tmcft of water from Singur to Nizamsagar was already given. The Minister said water would be released from Saturday evening itself.

The Chief Minister also instructed TS Genco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao to start hydel power generation at Singur hydel project.
