Hyderabad: The incessant rains are taking a heavy toll on the pedestrians with open nalas in the city turning death traps. One more person was feared washed away in an open nala at Qutbullapur on Saturday. A group of local people had tried in vain to rescue him with the help of a cable wire.

Cloud bursts has caused nalas overflowing. On Saturday, an unidentified man, allegedly in an inebriated state, was found near the nala at Madhusudhan Reddy Nagar, near Chintal under Jeedimetla police station limits. Even though the local people cautioned him not to go near the nala, he again went close to the nala. Even as the locals tried to dissuade him not to risk his life, he jumped into the overflowing waters of the nala.

Those, who happened to be present at the spot, tried to rescue him with the help of a cable wire, but he lost the grip and got washed away in the waters. The people, hoping to find him caught in the garage heap near Ganeshnagar bridge, were disappointed as he was feared drowned. Later the teams of GHMC and police officials swung into action.

Speaking the The Hans India, B Veerababu, sub-inspector of Jeedimetla police station, said they were continuing their efforts to find the man who was in the age group of 30-35. “About 20 GHMC staff and over a dozen policemen have been presented in to find the man, but till evening there was no trace of him,” he said.

About four years ago, a young government teacher was also washed away in the same nala, while walking on the bridge. A portion of bridge was not repaired and he fell into the nala.
