TS Govt to establish more junior colleges from next year

Hyderabad : Deputy Chief Minister (Education) Kadiyam Srihari on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the State Government would establish new junior colleges across the Telangana State from next academic year.

Replying to a question raised by TRS MLA Goverdhan Baji Reddy during Question Hour, the Deputy CM said of 404 government junior colleges, only three colleges does not have own building due to non-availability of land. He said that the government has upgraded all the junior colleges across the State during the last three years. He said all basic amenities, furniture, labs and equipment, toilets, RO plants, additional classrooms were provided at a cost of Rs. 275 crore. He said of 562 works, nearly 300 works have been completed. He said Additional Classes were provided in 117 colleges, toilets in 267 colleges and RO plants in 110 institutions.

Srihari also informed that the enrolment in government junior colleges has increased from 77,763 in 2014-15 to 82,581 in 2015-16 and 90,716 in 2016-17. He said Telangana was the only State in the country which is imparting free education for intermediate students. He said there was also a proposal to introduce mid-day meal scheme in junior colleges.
