Mahbubnagar: With the district administration of Mahbubnagar planning to introduce the State government’s initiative of most modern and advanced techniques like biometric attendance and helpline systems in all the Anganwadi centres, very soon people will witness a systemic revamp in the functioning of Anganwadis across the district.

While talking at a review meeting regarding the functioning of Anganwadi centres in the district, District Collector Ronald Rose along with Vijayendrabai, Commissioner of State Child and Women Welfare department said that the government was planning to bring in drastic changes to streamline the functioning of Anganwadi centres in the district very soon so as to bring in more transparency and accountability and ensure that the poor children below five years, pregnant women and lactating mothers get more care with regard to maintenance of proper diet and healthcare among them.

While referring to the recent recruitment of new Angawadi teachers and Ayas in the district, the Collector said that the newly inducted teachers and Ayas have been recruited based on strict rules and regulations set by the government. Giving weightage to the local candidates and following the rule of reservation and roster points, the appointments of Anganwadi Teachers and Ayas have been done in the district. A two-day orientation training programme at KK Reddy Bhavan in the district will help the newly inducted teachers and Ayas to maintain the Aganwadi centres more efficiently.

“Every year the Anganwadi teachers will be asked to set proposed targets of registering new born children and pregnant women under each Anganwadi centres during April and June, the Anganwadi Teachers in coordination with the ANMS and Asha workers must conduct regular surveillance of the areas under their jurisdiction and should compulsory register the new entrants. However, we are observing some of the Angawadi centres have not yet sent any proposed registration targets till date. This shows the anganwadis are not working as per the expectations.

We want the Anganwadi’s more accountable and transparent from now onwards and with the introduction of new biometric and helpline systems I am sure things will soon get streamlined,” observed Ms Vijayendrabai. During a surprise visit at Monappa Gutta Anganwadi Centre-2 in Mahabubnagar Urban, the Commissioner interacted with the children, pregnant women and lactating mothers at the centre and enquired about the facilities being provided to them at the Anganwadi centre.

While expressing her displeasure over not attaining the set target for new registrations at the centre, the Commissioner said, “The state government is providing thousands of crores of Rupees as funds for the welfare of child and women in the district. However, the Anganwadis are lagging behind in achieving the target registration of new born and pregnant women.” The Commissioner warned the Anganwadi teacher Hemalatha and the supervisor for not reaching the expectations of the government.
