Hyderabad: The Congress central leadership appears to have taken over the reins of state unit of the party. With the internal squabbles in Telangana Congress showing no signs of abating, the AICC has decided to monitor state party activities from Delhi, what with the TRS stealing a march over the Congress with several welfare schemes to woo voters, latest of which is a clutch of measures to nurse the constituency of BCs with tender care as they can make or mar an election.

Watching the balloon going up, the AICC relegated all the responsibilities, which the Telangana Congress Committee should be doing in normal course, to three secretaries who have been appointed in-charges for Telangana.

The three secretaries -NS Bose Raju, Srinivasan Krishnan and Saleem Ahmed - will have to take the decisions collectively in consultation with the party in-charge RC Khuntia with regard to the party affairs, including the constitution of the party committees and the conduct of party programmes from village to state level.

The existing TPCC leadership will confine to provide necessary logistical support to the three secretaries and arrange the meetings with them. On the condition of anonymity, a top leader from the AICC from New Delhi told The Hans India that the secretaries have been given powers to run the party and bring it on the track before the elections. The present TPCC body headed by N Uttam Kumar Reddy will continue but the secretaries will look after the party affairs from grassroots level to the state level.

The TPCC will play only the role of a facilitator to the three-member secretary team which will visit each Assembly constituency to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of the Congress before the election season begins. All the TPCC leaders, including the president and working president M Bhatti Vikramarka, have been asked to make themselves available to the secretaries during their visit to the districts.

Sources said the decision to deploy three-member AICC team to supervise the Telangana Congress affairs has been taken in the wake of intensified squabbles among the senior leaders, failure of the committee in conducting party programmes and expose the TRS government’s failures.

The exodus of senior leaders from the party also is learnt to have worried the party high command. The selection of the party candidates and the appointment of leaders for the post of Congress campaign committee and manifesto committee, which are considered key appointments ahead of the elections, will also be finalised by the three secretaries only.

In a bid to wipe out the menace of group politics in the party, AICC president Rahul Gandhi is also making himself available for all the senior leaders and instructed them to come out with good suggestions to consolidate the party and come to power in 2019, sources said.
