Gadwal: The Fisheries department officials in Gadwal conducted raids on the houses of a few suspects in Manovapadu mandal on Tuesday and seized dangerous species of African Catfish from the possession of a lorry driver and a businessman selling catfish in the district.

According to senior officials of Fisheries department, the African Cat Fish species is very dangerous as it eats on other fishes for survival. “Cat fish is a carnivorous and it eats off all the other fish species if released in the lakes and ponds.

But some greedy businessmen are stealthy smuggling this fish and selling it to fisherman here in the district to earn easy money,” said Madhusudhan, a senior official of Fisheries department. “We have seized the cat fish from a lorry driver and a private businessman and have confirmed it to be African Cat fish species very dangerous for the survival of other species,” he added.

In fact, this is the third incident in Gadwal where the cat fish species is being seized and killed and buried safely. The officials seized the Cat Fish and destroyed them and later buried it in the ground.

After thorough enquiry and verifying the documents, the officials came to a conclusion that the documents were fabricated and fake and they booked cases against the lorry driver and the businessman for illegally smuggling the cat fish and selling it to the people in the district to earn easy money.
