Kukatpally: Many government schools in Kukatpally and Serilingampally are deprived of first aid kits. Health centers are also not nearbyto many schools in the area in case of emergencies.Keeping firstaid kits at schools to take care of students at the time ofemergencies is mandatory. As per the instructions given by the Education Department,all government and private schools should havefirst aid kits in their premises.The department also suggested that every institution headmust allocatea part of thecollected school funds for the promotion of sports and games.

Basic first aid equipment such as bandages, cotton, Dettol,scissors and antibiotic tabletsare a must in every School, but many schools in the area are not even maintaining them.However, private schools to some extentmaintainbasic health needs.

"The school management has changed recently and things have to be set right. First aid kit will soon be brought in,” said a staff member of Government High School, Hydernagar, where about 600 students study.A teacher from Urdu Medium Primary School said that primary health centers and government hospitals used to supply the kits earlier, but they do not supply anymore. The health department should provide first aid kits early to the government schools. Primary health workers visit often and distribute medicines among students,she added.

Doctors or health workers from nearby primary health centres are supposed to visit schools and explain techniques to both the teachers and the students about how to treat wounded,but it is hardly happening at schools, a school committee member said. Text books also should incorporate lessons on first aid to create awareness among students, the member added.

Speaking to Hans India, In-charge Mandal Education Officer Mr. Anjaneyulu said, "No excuse will betoleratedin safety and security of students. School headmasters need to contact District Medical &Health Departmentandget first aid kits". He said that he wouldconduct inspection in his jurisdiction soon and would instruct all the managements to make first-aid kitsmandatoryat their schools.
