DEO inspects arrangements at polling centres

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore, along with Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar and senior officials, inspected some of the distribution, reception and counting centres in 15 assembly constituencies. The inspection will continue on Friday. The inspections are mainly to verify whether the works taken up with regard to strong rooms, security arrangements etc., have been done as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (EMI).
Also, to make sure that the allotted places are sufficient at the distribution and reception centres for the movement of voters while receiving the polling materials. The DEO enquired about the food arrangements and other related issues during the inspection. They inspected strong rooms meant for storing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs) at Nizam College, LB Stadium and other places.
The DEO said that there is a need of 27,000 polling staff for the polling process, and that about 23,500 of them are already been arranged, and the remaining staff is also being taken care of by duly coordinating with the concerned officials. Instructions have also been given to ROs, ACPs to impart proper training to the polling staff for performing their duties with transparency, he added.
The EVMs/ VVPATs that have been stored at the Victory Play Ground will be taken up for first randomization, and later they will be transported to the concerned ROs at their respective DRC centres with security arrangements, CCTV Cameras, CRPF personnel and the representatives of the Political Parties to have a clear knowledge about the process, Dana Kishore said.
In the training programme, officials will be taught about the working of EVMs and VVPATs to have a clear understanding. The department will also conduct mock polls and the officials will also be explained about the critical polling stations. They will be given proper training on the arrangements provided to the physically challenged and the basic minimum facilities, the DEO said.
