Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior leader and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance chairman Veerappa Moily on Thursday said that the Rafale deal would stand as the biggest scandal in the history of the country.

Addressing the media, he said that there were lot of doubts on the deal and it was struck by waging the national security. He alleged that it was daylight robbery as the price was raised by 200 per cent. Moily criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that though it was said by Modi that his government would encourage Make in India, under the Rafale deal the jet fighters would be imported from France. He made it clear that the Centre did not give any report to the Public Accounts Committee on the deal and it has given a wrong report to the Supreme Court. This has led to erroneous judgment by the apex court.

Moily said that the Congress would not consider Supreme Court as a better platform to unearth the scam and it had been demanding for a Joint Parliamentary Committee for inquiry. He said that while the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has said that it was capable of manufacturing the jet fighters, the Prime Minister refused it. The scandal was fallout of crony capitalism. Moily expressed anguish that as much as Rs 41,000 crore public money would be wasted and the Centre entered into the deal to benefit Anil Ambani companies.
