Sankranti rush chokes bus, rail stations
With Sankranti vacations starting from Friday, the bus depots and railway stations in the city wore a crowded look on Thursday with passengers boarding buses and trains to their native places
Hyderabad: With Sankranti vacations starting from Friday, the bus depots and railway stations in the city wore a crowded look on Thursday with passengers boarding buses and trains to their native places.
The bus stations including the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), Jubilee Bus Station (JBS), Secunderabad, Nampally and Kacheguda Railway Stations witnessed huge number of passengers. The vacations of Sankranti festival for the schools are starting from Friday onwards and as a result, the citizens thronged to various stations to go to their native places. The passengers had to force themselves into trains at Secunderabad railway station because of the huge crowd.
The TSRTC authorities are operating 5,252 additional buses from Hyderabad to different locations to clear the rush of passengers during Sankranti. To avoid rush at MGBS and JBS, the authorities have provided buses from various points in the city.
The scheduled and special buses going towards Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Medak would be starting from JBS. The buses going towards Kurnool, Anantapur, Gutti, Puttaparthi, Dharmavaram and Madanapally would be starting from MGBS.
The buses going towards Nandyal, Atmakur, Velugodu, Nandikotkur, Koilakunta, Allagadda, Mydukuru, Banaganapally, Avuku, Badwel, Jammulamadugu, Proddutur, Pulivendula, Kadapa, Rajampet, Rayachoti, Koduru and Chittoor would be starting from Kacheguda bus station.
The buses going towards Yadagirigutta, Warangal would be operated from Uppal Cross Roads and the buses going towards Miryalguda, Nalgonda, Kodada and Suryapet would be starting from Dilsukhnagar bus station.
The buses going towards Vijayawada, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari would be operated from Lingampally, Chandagangar, Miyapur, KPHB, S R Nagar, Ameerpet, Telephone Bhavan, and L B Nagar.
The private bus operators are cashing in on the crowded buses of the Corporation. The passengers complain that the RTC not only uses city services but also collects 1.5 per cent more fares from the passengers.
The private operators are also cashing in by charging more than double the actual fare. For example, the RTC fare for the A/c service from Hyderabad to Rajamahendravaram Rs 660 but the private operators are quoting Rs 2,690 (as per www.redbus.in).
