Hyderabad: Drivers belonging to the cab aggregators Ola and Uber are up in arms. They say that their income has fallen drastically in the past 18 months as several benefits were rolled back. Syed Shahnawaz Pasha, president, Telangana Drivers Ekta Association said, “Drivers are being exploited by the managements. Even a strike by the drivers has not had an effect on them.”

Ali, a driver said that the managements first captured the market and now have taken away all benefits, leaving drivers helpless. He says, “There was no repair maintenance fee, which has been introduced. Every time, the car goes for servicing we need to shell out money.” A delegation of Telangana Drivers Ekta Association met Konda Vishweswar Reddy, MP, Chevella, and presented their grievances over being exploited by the managements and not responding to their strike, which is on for the last one week.

Cab aggregators extended working hours sometimes up to 20 hours, while their income has fallen drastically from Rs 40,000 to Rs 10,000 a month. Vishweswar Reddy said, “I raised this in the Parliament on earlier occasion and will raise it again if I get an opportunity. Will also sensitise my fellow MPs on this issue, write to the Telangana and the Central Governments to look into the grievances of the drivers, will represent the issue with the Law Ministry and Labour Ministry, to suitably address the issue urgently.”

The drivers going on strike in large numbers will impact the commuters in the city creating tremendous inconvenience to the citizens, so the governments should look into it and make the managements address the grievances on war footing, the MP added.
