Karimnagar: Employing children for begging is a punishable offence with imprisonment for a term, which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine of Rs one lakh, warned Parveen, the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) Officer. ICPS district team caught eight women, who were begging with the help of infants at different localities in Karimnagar city on Wednesday.

Jampamma, wife of Rajaiah, was caught begging with an infant, aged below one year, at the Collectorate gate. The team members said that normally the begging women will get infants or children from Budaga Jangala Colony, opposite university, Malkapur road; Arepally; and from slum areas near Ambedkar Stadium to use for begging.
