Alwal: The Retreat Colony at Alwal is facing overflow of sewage water for the past 6 months. The daily overflow of sewage water has resulted in creation of a mud-pool near the entrance of the colony. It also has become slimy and slippery making it risky to walk through it.

This stagnated sewage has become a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes which have increased to an alarming proportion. Madhusudhan, a local, said they have complained about this perennial problem to the GHMC officials and no action has been taken till date.

Due to the rise in influx of people day by day and also with a new apartment construction coming up regularly, the sewage water poses a potential health hazard to the people residing in nearby localities.

Locals said that the problem is due to the poor construction if sewage chambers which lead to frequent choking of pipeline and causing overflow. They said the officials concerned should reconstruct the inner manual chamber.

The officials must take up this perennial problem and chalk out a plan to improve the drainage system in this area, locals said.
